Take Home Tools for Assessing Usability in Packaging

Industrial Designer Jim Mueller, one of the creators of the 7 principles of universal design, will conduct a hands-on workshop during the morning of June 22nd. He will be avaialble to schedule consultation sessions with individual companies in the afternoon.

Hands-on Workshop
Mr. Mueller will lead a hands-on workshop that introduces tools for assessing package usability. Topics include:

An introduction to functional characteristics of aging and disabilities (simulation experiences supported with commentary by people who live with these functional characteristics – “disability advisors”)

An introduction to UD performance measurement (research, tools, outcomes, marketing of results)

A sample product assessment exercise (using a product not designed by any of the companies represented); employing a sample assessment tool such as “Universal Design Performance Measures” as well as simulations, disability advisors.

Review of results of the assessment exercise and critique of the experience.

Private Consulting
For those who seek confidential guidance on a specific project under development there will be a private consultation. This second half of the day is offered on an hourly basis. Companies can request from 1-4 hrs. If you have questions with regard to this service, please consult Dr. Laura Bix.
