Designers of child resistant closures
used on packaging are continuously
torn between the need to make packages
difficult for children to open and
relatively easy for adults, including
seniors with limited mobility and dexterity.
Until very recently the designer’s
tool box has been very limited, relying
on the use of:
- Differing cognitive skills of children
verses adults
- Limited selection of molding materials
- Creativity in designing catch mechanisms.
This is changing with the ever increasing
use of bi-injection molding and thermoplastic
elastomers.
This presentation offers an overview
of the bi-injection process and how
this process along with advanced materials
with new properties can offer senior
adult friendly packaging that protects
children.
