Tod Marks is a Senior Editor at Consumer
Reports magazine, where he has covered
an eclectic mix of subjects from appliances
and electronics to foods and product safety.
Most recently, in the May issue, he wrote
about factory outlet stores, and he has
a story Rating America’s chain restaurants
coming out in July.
Marks is considered
Consumer Reports’ shopping expert
– having researched stories on
supermarkets, hotels, warehouse clubs,
pharmacies, mail order, and other retail
venues and consumer services. He wrote
the first-ever article of its kind for
the magazine, “Cure for the Rx
Blues,” which was nominated in
2000 for a National Magazine Award in
the category of Personal Service. Last
year, he won a National Press Club Award
for the series, “The Trouble With
Recalls,” about the proliferation
of dangerous products and the subsequent
response by government and industry
to counter the problem.
Marks has been
the author of Consumer Reports’
product recalls column for more than
15 years, and in that capacity, has
direct dealings with government agencies
such as the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, the Consumer
Product Safety Commission, and the Food
and Drug Administration.
Prior to joining
Consumer Reports, Marks was a newspaper
and magazine writer and editor, with
the Gannett Newspaper chain and Progressive
Grocer, a supermarket industry trade
publication.
