This presentation covers
global and national (USA) demographic
characteristics, normal aging changes,
and issues related to disabilities among
older adults. Economic issues are also
presented including the disposition
of discretionary income among older
adults. Specific areas of “big
ticket” and general goods and
services purchases are discussed. Onset
of so-called definable sensory modality
changes –beginning at 40 with
hearing and 50 with vision– are
presented. Issues of disability and
developing universal design approaches
are presented. These normal and disabilities
related changes are included in a broad-based
discussion of appropriate responses
to the marketing and development of
goods and packaging designs for an older
market.
